Do you need previous experience for a via ferrata?
As a general rule, no, because on all via ferratas you will be accompanied by qualified guides and monitors with extensive experience in these types of activities and you will have the appropriate equipment that will allow you to enjoy them correctly and safely. However, in the case of intermediate or advanced via ferratas, it is recommended to have previously completed another via ferrata of lesser difficulty, which has allowed you to recognise your own reactions.
Which via ferrata to choose?
Not all via ferratas are the same: some are better suited for a first experience, such as Arbas or Cistierna, while others are more attractive to those seeking a more challenging or longer route, such as Sabero and Valdeón. The environment in which they are located also varies, as those at higher altitudes offer spectacular views but are more exposed to the weather, while others are more sheltered in the valleys.
Which is the easiest via ferrata to start with?
Arbás and Cistierna (both at their initiation level) are the most suitable if you want to start doing via ferratas. Sabero and Valdeón can also be done without prior experience, but they are longer routes with more «atmosphere».
